So how do you feel about those that believe in an alleged paranormal event, for example, and despite good evidence if not outright proof to the contrary they start ridiculing those not upholding the paranormal party line. That is what gets to me.
Now, I used to believe in the ghost/goblin/demon theory of unexplained events - that jw thing you know - but not anymore. The people that I know and have known that have stories of the paranormal to tell, and there are quite a few, I don't view as reliable based on many of their observations in life; not just because of their supernatural tales. They just seem to be tweaked a little off center lets say. I am not implying that everyone experiencing a strange event is a bit off the wall though. Some things just defy explanation but I have to go in with an extra healthy dose of skepticism and look for a less than supernatural explanation. -

Who is Henrietta M. Riley
by cultswatter ini googled that name and found a trust fund that is named after her.
i also found the tax returns for 2005,2004,2003 for that fund.
the riley trust funds largest revenue is oil and gas royalties and in 2005 over 3 million dollars of oil and gas royalties flowed into the riley trust fund.

Where do you go for your spiritual needs?
by Blindbutnowisee ini never was baptize as a jw.
i use to study with them for years, i even went as for as becoming a unbaptize publisher.
i gave up being a publisher because i did not feel genuine in my efforts to preach.

If you shouldn't worry about the past then why even worry about the bible, and all that entails, at all? I mean, that was most certainly in the past. Maybe she meant there is just a gap in history that you should turn a blind eye to. Hmmm, imagine that. How convenient.
Oh, and I go to the Goodwill Store for all my spiritual needs. Keep an eye out for the 50% off stickers. -

A little late to the thread here. All I can say is that if a dub needs a doctor etc. do you think that they make sure to pick an amateur? Hate to think of getting help from anyone with them fancy letters after their name. Getting a C.L.U.E. would be most helpful to a lot of jws.
Hadda spell something out 'cause everyone else has. :) -

July is here...
by WTWizard ini remember last month when there was a rumor started that insinuated june 12th as the predicted date for armageddon, evidently started by the governing body to be spread via the hounder-hounders.
they were talking about only days and a few weeks at most, and that was at the beginning of june 2007. this system of things was not supposed to make it past the end of june.. guess what, bozos!
july is here, and we are still in this system of things!

Musical Dishonesty - What next?
by hillary_step inone of the saddest and imho dishonest introductions into the popular music world in recent times is the processor introduced by antares called 'auto-tune'.. this combination of hardware and software processes the music, and especially the vocals of musicians, to automatically correct the tuning for example, of voices which cannot hold a note or sing in tune and does so in virtually real-time.
it is used by a growing number of vocalists who are untrained and cannot sing in tune and allows them to parade on stage as if they were note perfect.. numerous amateur and professional performers alike have decided that autotune is one way that removes the need for talent or hard work and have no issue with dishonestly representing themselves as long as the cash flows.
it is set to become standard equipment on tour.. i cannot help but feel that we have lost something big along the way.. hs.

Having been one of those horrible drummers from a bygone era, I knew people that were "taught" and could play figure eights around me at light speed but there were times that I was somehow preferred because of my "feel" for playing. Not that I agreed with the opinions but that's how it sometimes went. It was mentioned earlier about a drummer's fluid style and I've seen myself on film/tape and I look quite fluid in motion. Sound might be crap but it's fluid!
On perfection: I remember a guitar player one time going over and over an intro trying to get this little off note down cold. I mentioned to him something I read about BB King (I think it was). He had said something to the effect of "Now THAT's flattery when they even copy your mistakes!" I rather like hearing the pros screw up now and then. It gives me hope.

Let the stones cry out!
by WTWizard inhow often have you heard the phrase "if we don't preach, the stones would cry out"?
this is in regard to the ministry.. what i cannot figure out is (1) this is so urgent that we have to be out 18+ hours a day doing it, (2) we have to endure all sorts of conditions to accomplish our ministry, and (3) we are supposed to get it perfect so people can be drawn in.
so, why don't the stones get to help us out?

Yes, the Stones have a new DVD out too. I think it was way, way back that Keith Richard/s said in an interview that if he wasn't on the road all the time he might even become one of Jehovah's Witnesses. Something like that. Wouldn't the GB just love that one!
Maybe the jws are in fact the anti-typical stones so in that way the stones are indeed crying out? -

which celebrity death....?
by nowisee injust heard about the death of joel siegel, the entertainment critic for abc, and found myself, surprisingly, in tears.
maybe it was because he had such a young son and made plans to let him know how much he was loved, long before he died.
maybe because i have watched him for so many years.

Stevie Ray Vaughan for sure. Keith Moon and John Bohnam to a degree. Princess Di, so tragic.
Vince Lombardi: I remember the day it was on the morning news, all channels, and my mom was furious that that was all that was being talked about. Or so it seemed to her. Anyways, she stomped, marched, stormed over to the TV and WHAM!! smacked the on/off knob - no remotes in those days kiddies - and shouted "HE'S JUST A MANNNNNN!!!" That attitude was more of a shock to me though. Yep, I remember it like it was yesterday. -
